My Research Process!!!(:

I started my research for my topic this week and I have to say it wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be. At first I got a little frustrated because as much as I typed in my topic it would give me something completely different. Fortunately after a while and after narrowing my choice of words I found a couple of articles on my topic. The key words that really helped me find the articles were family and effects of cancer. As far as the quantity of sources, I only found about seven articles all different but having to do in some way with my topic. I did get a little overwhelmed not because I found a lot but because I found very little research.
The sources I found were not all particularly based on the same area of study, they gave different approaches all having to do with the topic. I liked how the research that I found had to deal more than just the emotional stress of the family. In some articles that I found I saw that it focused on all aspects of the families struggles including their social lives. I also found an article about the effect on children when a parent is diagnosed with cancer, which can make my research stronger. To find out if they were useful or not I had to read the abstract and see if it would fit in well with my topic and make my argument stronger.
By sorting through the sources that I found I learned about the financial struggles the families of cancer patients face and how their social lives change dramatically because of the stress they deal with every single day. Overall, I feel like the sources that I found helped me out and that they will definitely make my research and argument stronger.

My Topic

After thinking about what topic I should write about I finally decided on something that is really close to my heart and that I care very deeply about. I decided that my topic would be the affect of cancer on the family and how it can lead to an overwhelming lifestyle. The reason why I decided on this topic is because my own family went through difficult circumstances because of cancer. Also, many people don’t realize the affect that it has on the family.
If you don’t have any background with cancer you might ask yourself these questions:
What are the affects on the family?
Why is the family affected?
What kind of lifestyle do those families live?
How can the public help?
Why isn’t the public aware of this problem?
Why doesn’t the government offer help to the families?
While looking at these questions I can see that the questions that would be more useful for my topic would be the questions that tell the affects that cancer has on the family and how people in the community and all over the world could help those families. My topic is very important not only to me but also to everyone who has a family member who has suffered or is suffering from cancer. Cancer has been known for taking the lives of many people. Not only are there many different types of cancer but it also affects people of all ages and both women and men. I am working on the affects of cancer on the family leading to an overwhelming lifestyle because I want to find out why the public isn’t aware of the problem in order to help my reader understand how to help the families.

Hello my name is Daisy Correa I am a freshman in college, and this blog will give you a little bit of information about me so that you can get to know me. I was born in Holland, Michigan but have been raised my whole life in Texas. I am very passionate about helping the community and like to volunteer at different places to lend a hand whenever I can. Helping others is one of the most beautiful things that a human can do. One of my favorite things to do is babysit and to be around kids of all ages. I love kids a lot and I hope to one-day work with them in my profession. Speaking about my profession, I hope to graduate from West Texas A&M University with my bachelor’s in psychology or social work in the next couple of years. Other than volunteering and being around kids, I also love to spend time with my family and friends. Family is by far the number one most important thing in my life, without the members in my family I wouldn’t be where I am today. I cherish every second that I get to spend with my family because I know many people who don’t even have a family.
An issue that I feel very passionate about is the horrible and cruel disease called cancer. I have lost a lot of close family members to cancer, which is why I try to do my best to help out. As I said before I love to help others and volunteer which is why every year I participate with the American Cancer Society in their event Relay for Life. I would encourage everyone to participate in this amazing event that helps thousand of people who are battling cancer every second of their day. This year I hope to learn how to become a better writer as well as different skills that will help me later in life with my career. I hope this blog got to help you know a little more about me and about what I love and am passionate about, until next time.
