I started my research for my topic this
week and I have to say it wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be. At
first I got a little frustrated because as much as I typed in my topic it would
give me something completely different. Fortunately after a while and after
narrowing my choice of words I found a couple of articles on my topic. The key
words that really helped me find the articles were family and effects of
cancer. As far as the quantity of sources, I only found about seven articles
all different but having to do in some way with my topic. I did get a little
overwhelmed not because I found a lot but because I found very little research.
The sources I found were not all
particularly based on the same area of study, they gave different approaches
all having to do with the topic. I liked how the research that I found had to
deal more than just the emotional stress of the family. In some articles that I
found I saw that it focused on all aspects of the families struggles including
their social lives. I also found an article about the effect on children when a
parent is diagnosed with cancer, which can make my research stronger. To find
out if they were useful or not I had to read the abstract and see if it would
fit in well with my topic and make my argument stronger.
By sorting through the sources that I
found I learned about the financial struggles the families of cancer patients
face and how their social lives change dramatically because of the stress they
deal with every single day. Overall, I feel like the sources that I found
helped me out and that they will definitely make my research and argument
stronger.
